The Fifth Meeting on Hot Subdwarf Stars & Related Objects
25 - 29 July 2011, Stellenbosch, South Africa
The fifth of the biennial conferences devoted to "Hot subdwarf stars and related objects" is to be held 25-29 July 2011, in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Focus areas of past meetings have included the atmospheres, internal structure and evolution of hot subdwarfs, population synthesis, and asteroseismology. Participants are welcome to submit poster or oral contributions on these or related topics, e.g. extended horizontal branch stars in clusters, the UV upturns in galaxies and bulges, asteroseismology with COROT or KEPLER, etc.
The meeting will be hosted by the University of the Western Cape, and will mark the 65th birthday of David Kilkenny, recognising more than four decades of his contributions to the field.

Stellenbosch is a small university town approximately 50 kilometers from Cape Town. The conference will be held at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS). There are both bed-and-breakfast accommodation, and hotels, within easy walking distance of STIAS.
Registration for the meeting is now open, and will close on Wednesday 1 June. Abstract submissions will be accepted until the same date, or until the programme is full. The registration fee is R3400 (South African Rands; currently approximately US$470 or €345). The fee covers daily lunches and teas, the conference dinner, an afternoon outing to a wine estate, and the conference proceedings.
A two-day outing to the Sutherland site of the South African Astronomical Observatory, approximately 400 km from Cape Town, will be arranged for the weekend following the conference, for those interested. Cost will be determined by numbers.
There will be limited financial assistance available for students, in the form of waiving part of the registration fee; please apply by Friday 29 April.
